1970 AAR ‘cuda
This is my first Mopar – a 1970 Plymouth AAR ‘cuda in F8 green. It’s a numbers matching 340 Six Barrel with an auto on the column, 8 ¾ Sure Grip and AM/FM radio. I found it online in April 2005. The price was very reasonable so I called…and called…and called all morning but got the answering matching. I was stuck in a class so I asked Ed to call every chance he got. I finally got through. Everything sounded good so I asked for pictures. It was rusty but the frame rails and other key areas looked good. I decided to skip a trip to Ohio and buy it sight unseen. The guy brought it to my house and I checked it over. It was a little worse than described but I was happy.

These are the pictures that were sent to my by the previous owner. That’s one ugly car! But I could see its potential. It came with a spare OEM AAR hood that’s in very good condition. The correct wheels and exhaust manifolds are missing. The interior is complete and came with an extra radio.

The firewall has only surface rust. The inner fenders will be replaced. As Ed would say, “The trunk floor is a little metally.” (i.e. It’s very rusty!) That will get replaced. The engine is there and complete. It’s spins freely.

On Jan 1, 2008 Ed and I moved the AAR into the work bay.

Goodmark and AMD came out with most of the sheet metal that I need to restore the AAR. I purchased all of the new metal at the 2007 Nats in Ohio. I’m still waiting for the new fenders. Some of the parts will come from my semicuda. Ed, Nancy, mom and dad bought me an Auto Twirler Plus for Christmas. How cool is that???

You never know what you’ll find when take a car apart. I found a pack of JOB cigarette paper under the carpet by the passenger seat. “Rock” is written on the left rear inner wheelhouse.
